I can see my New Year’s resolution to blog more is already taking a beating. What can I say, I’ve been traveling a lot. Which means that even though I have not been blogging much, I have been knitting plenty. My latest project is this little pair of gloves:

As you may have guessed from the thread title, I’m a moderate fan of the series Downton Abbey. Yes, it’s a total soap opera, but it’s such good eye candy! I love all the costuming and although I suspect I would actually tire of the details like corsetting very quickly, I do sometimes wish that my everyday called for looking as elegant as the ladies of Downton.

With that wish in mind, I set out to create these gloves (working title: Sultry Evening), which feature an open mock-cable motif on the hand and fingers. I’ve added a few other features that I think are especially Downton-esque, like a coordinating mock-cable on the thumb (because when all your clothes are bespoke, every little detail can be attended to):

And a cuff that will eventually have a smart set of buttons running up the wrist–perfect for when you are heading out for a drive with your chauffeur/love interest, right?

Right now I’m torn as to whether I should go with a double row of buttons or just leave it at one. Feel free to leave a comment if you have a strong thought either way!

As always, I am working up a pattern for these, so keep an eye out or sign up for the mailing list if they appeal to you!
